Practicalities

The Jalon Valley is located more than 2000 km from the Netherlands, in the Comunidad Valenciana, in the province of Alicante, in the region of Marina Alta. Most people therefore choose to come by plane. The region is accessible from Alicante Airport as well as from Valencia, both are about an hour’s drive away.

If you do not come with your own car it is almost necessary to rent a car, see our special page for tips. Public transport is very scarce here: there is a train connection from Valencia to Gandia, and one from Alicante to Calpe, Benissa and Denia. From Calpe and Denia there is a bus through the valley along Jalon, Alcalali and Parcent, but that runs at most several times a day.

We have no experience with it, but there is a taxi company in the Valley: Taxi Parcent. Also in Denia you will find taxi’s.

Shopping

For daily shopping you can visit a mini-supermarket and two bakers in the village of Alcalalí. Bottles of water can be found at the petrol station as well. There are larger supermarkets in Jalon and in Orba. Benissa has several supermarkets as well. A large indoor shopping complex can be found in Ondara.

In Alcalalí you will also find several restaurants, a pharmacy, tabac, hairdresser, ATM, petrol station and a shop for all kinds of practical items (home, garden, kitchen, beach, writing and drawing equipment). Every morning the second-hand store of the Jalon Valley Help is open, where they can sell clothes, puzzles and (English) books.
